The Bachelor of Speech-Language Therapy, is offered in the School of Health Sciences on the Westville Campus, in E Block, on the 5th level. This a full-time degree and is four years (or 8 semesters) in duration. All student Speech Language Therapists are required to register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa in their first year of study, as they will begin observations in their first year and clinical practice from the second year of study.
The Speech Language Therapist is involved in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of communication and/or swallowing. Students are trained across various clinical sites, including hospitals, clinics, schools and rehabilitation centres, under the supervision of clinical supervisors and academics.
In addition to the undergraduate programme, the Discipline also offers postgraduate degrees at the level of Masters and PhD.
To be eligible for postgraduate admission, the applicant must be a qualified Speech Language Therapist.
