BIOSKETCHDr Karani obtained her undergraduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Witwatersrand (cum laude) in 2017. She received numerous awards during her university years (AB Clemons research award, awards for the best student in both Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, Golden Key Awardee for four consecutive years, and the Faculty Dean’s medal award, etc.). In addition, in 2021 she was a recipient of the prestigious Sponsor-A-Student Scholarship for the Dysphagia Research Society.In 2022, she completed her PhD in Speech-Language Therapy after being awarded an upgrade from her Master’s full research degree, one of the first in her field. Her research focused on evaluating the influence of food acoustic properties on the swallow mechanism. She has presented her undergraduate and postgraduate research at local and international conferences.Tasneem plans to grow her research career by contributing novel and impactful research in the field. She will be involved in student research supervision (Masters and PhD). She also aspires to further her studies through Postdoctoral work.
